Assignment 1

Tell a story by using lists.

Reading lists, to-do lists, listening lists, grocery lists (etc.) are fair game.

(I made up this prompt.)

I thought I’d post mine tonight, but it’s taking longer than I thought. I’ll post the results in the next day or two.

  1. What a great idea for a writing prompt. Being a list maker, this really appeals to me. I look forward to reading your list story. Off now to work on mine.

  2. This is such a great exercise, one that sometimes produces great work (always a bonus.) My co-blogger has a wonderful post about writing memoir in list form–you might like to check it out. Happy to have found you through Shauna, and I look forward to reading more.

  3. Thanks, Juliann! It turned out to be a poem, “rather” than a story, I think. This may show that I’m more of a poet than a fiction writer. But it’s a prompt that I could use over and over, no? Maybe I’ll try again and stretch myself into fiction.

And Paige, thank you for your kind words!–I’m honored. I’ll definitely check out the post you suggested.

  4. Lists! It’s funny how those things tend to populate our lives. It’s a wonderful exercise. I might just try it too – although in the current state my brain is in, it might just be:

    Bird.
    Bird.
    BIRDBIRDBIRDBIRDBIRD.
    Guppy!

  5. Hi Kiku, very happy to have found you through Shauna’s GFG blog. I look forward to reading more of your posts, and assignments. I’m not sure if you’re intending for others to join in or not with them (the assignments that is) but if so, would love to participate as I’d also love to extend/improve my writing (not that I have much experience, or bravery for that matter when it comes to “personal” writing).

    1. Hi Mouse, Thanks for the message! I may have a “forum” section set up, if there’s enough demand. In the meantime, feel free to post a link to your response in the comments section for now.
